Microsoft’s “Merry Go Round” of Windows 7 PCs

It’s easy to lose track of some of the amazing new Windows 7 PCs that seems to come out every other week, which is what makes this Microsoft “Merry Go Round” video so much fun to watch.

This ad-like 3-minute video takes a whirlwind tour of some neat Windows 7 features on at least a dozen gorgeous Windows 7 laptops and desktops from HP, Toshiba, ASUS, Samsung, Dell, Lenovo, Acer and Sony. Intel’s WiDi wireless display technology, HTC HD2 Windows phone and the upcoming HP Slate (with emulated UI) also make brief appearances. You’d be hard pressed to find a better video showing off the current Windows hardware ecosystem.

Finally if you find the song extremely catchy like me then check out “Tal & Acacia“, actually the same band featured in the video. Their song “Merry go round” is available on YouTube.

    1. AH, that is the Dell Latitude Z. It’s a 16inch laptop, with the ability to recharge and connect to an external monitor without any cables or dock plug reaching the laptop…

  1. Wouldn’t be surprised to see this hitting either the cinemas (Pre-film advertisements) or a series of 30-second ads on TV. As you said, it’s a very fun little video, and very well-made too.

  2. @Garion
Oh wait, might also be the Dell Latitude 13… lol they both look a lot of like to each other.

  3. the only thing that actually got me really excited about that video was seeing Windows mobile 7 running on the HD2 hmmmmmmmm

  4. Great video… that tune is pretty catchy, but I think it’d drive me nuts if I heard it too much, lol. Still, I’d love to see this broken down into 30-45-60 second commercials. I’m a huge fan of commercials that actually show off the product(s) in use rather than the types that trash-talk competitors.

  5. At 00:35, which Asus is that? Because i want it 🙂

Not a bad video, a tad too long, but definitely Microsoft (adj) and convincing for most of the market.

  6. I wonder what Microsoft’s response should be if indeed HP is cancelling their Windows based Slate. I would be so pissed…I mean, MS took the time to highlight your product onstage at CES.

    1. Most likely HP will release their product, because it’s at near end stages (finished up the UI, and everything) Not selling it would be several million if not more, loss. It would be better for them to try to recuperate the cost. Unless they have a lot of money to simply trow away.

But, what to expect is (if the rumor is true).is that you won’t have an application store for the Slate or anything like that, and that would be the last tablet from HP. OR the last using Windows 7. Why I suggest the last one using Windows 7? because Windows 7 is heavy for a such small device. If they go with Linux distribution (Ubuntu, Antroid, etc…), they can:
      – really customize the OS to me better for the Slate, unless something is arranged with Microsoft.
      – Not need to use x86 CPU’s, but any other CPU of their choice, like the Nvidia Tegra 2 which provide impressive performance, and super long battery life (16h of HD video playback, apparently by Nvidia at their last on stage press conference at CES, and it’s not attached to a car battery). This is a problem with Windows.. it only supports x86 CPU, which is currently an issue if you try to have mobile device.
      – Cut down on the OS to only have what you need for the Slate device as it’s open source code.

These are my thoughts on the rumor, if true.

The interesting news, is that Dell has one in the making, powered by Nvidia Tegra 2:

  7. I like the idea of promoting the software by showing it running in real world scenarios and on multiple OEMs. It’s something they should do when Windows Phone 7 launches. It’s one of the reasons I like Laptop Hunters. Users get a glimpse at the breadth of options available in the hardware department.

  8. Yea, Video gone!! Shame.
I was going to ask what keyboard was on the desk next to the Dell Lat Z when then lady put it down at 1:23.

  9. Video removed by request of whom? For what? Again was Steven Sinofsky here?

  10. @Pete. I think I recall a Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 in there somewhere. Not sure if that’s the one you’re thinking of, but just a guess.

  11. Notebooks and tablets are high margin, now you figure out why they would push them.
