Base on Hotmail updates prior to Windows Live, I can understand why folks are skeptical. I think it is fair to say that Microsoft has been putting more & more resources behind this. But you are right, it remains to be seen if Live is on a new update schedule.

I can't help but be curious if Office Web Apps is built on Live Mesh App platform or whatever new incarnation of that is.

The very non-web like release schedule of Windows Live is one of it's biggest weaknesses IMHO.

It all remains to be seen.

I'm also seeing a new look login for Windows Live on both Chrome and Firefox, is anyone else seeing it too?

This is the link I'm using:
http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=11&ct=1268369268&rver=5.5.4177.0&wp=MBI&wlcxt=title&wreply=http:%2F%2Fskydrive.live.com%2Fwelcome.aspx&lc=2057&id=250206

And this is an image (and shameless promotion) of the login screen I'm actually seeing:

I really wish Microsoft would simplify their product structure for both Offline and Online Office. All these Windows Live, Office, Office Live, Office Web Apps confuses the hell out me. Maybe I am slow but I can't help thinking a more simplified structure can't that hard.
