There will be so much Windows Mobile, Microsoft can’t fit it in one event in February

Something big must be brewing in Windows Mobile land because apparently it will be such a revelation Microsoft can’t even explain it all in one day, let alone one event.

Moments ago, Microsoft sent out a press release detailing the February schedule for upcoming events for the financial analysts and investors community.

Whilst usually I couldn’t care less, what poked my interest was that Microsoft is scheduling not one but two Windows Mobile-related events in a matter of just seven (7) days – one immediately after their press conference at Mobile World Congress and another a week later.

In contrast to the previous year where they announced Windows Mobile 6.5, there was only one event and that was the briefing at MWC. The next person to suggest Windows Mobile 7 is delayed and they are only showing off WM 6.5.3 (a.k.a. 6.6) will get slapped.

  1. Y’know…judging by the current caliber of rumors, I call it right now.
    WM7 will be delayed. 😉

but seriously, this certainly gets the thoughts flowing, huh? Maybe it’s a good time to reveal Courier as well?

    1. It would be a good time to reveal Courier, if it actually existed. But somehow I doubt that. All we really know is that there’s a bunch of mockup images and concept video, but no actual hardware has been spotted.

Interestingly, judging from the lacklustre reactions to the iPad and the Courier concept video, if there -was- a Courier, and it did stuff as well as the concepts suggested, it’d blow the iPad out of the water. A Microsoft product. Blowing the latest Apple gadget out of the water. It’d be pandemonium.

Shame about Microsoft’s inability to ship anything.

  2. looking forward to the 15th and thee 22nd of February. I hope it isn’t a let down like the apple event was yesterday.

  3. Those financial events are probably damage control versus informational. Ballmer and Bach’s heads are probably on the line given how badly Mobile has fallen.

    1. That’s alwasy a possibility, but I ‘m kinda curious as to why they have the two analyst meetings. The second one specific to Windows Mobile… This might lead one to believe that there’s two phones to be revealed. Later this year for WM7 and Pink this spring, perhaps?

  4. If they reveal Windows Mobile 7 at the event(s), it will probably have gesture support given all the rumours. Touch computing was a revolution in interacting with computers. Gesture controlled computing will be an evolution in interacting with computers. The next step.

It may not replace the mouse/keyboard but it will be a useful method of interacting.

    1. I think that’s going to be the natural evolution, but I no longer think the NUI stuff will be in this generation. Perhaps CES 2011 and WM8.

But, it would be totally cool if the NUI and Aug Reality stuff came out sooner rather than later.

  5. Its about time Microsoft, I can’t stand Apple taking all the thunder for the past 3-years!!!

  6. Was does this Microsoft PUSHING website, use NON Microsoft “open source” WordPress 2.9.1?
Why isn’t Microsoft pushing websites using ASP.Net ( a Microsoft server software) instead?

Clearly, if this website is USING the benefits of “open source” free software, it should also provide support for “open source” free software!

    Genuine you claim? Ha!!!!!!!!
