Microsoft releases Windows 7 sponsored themes

As the official Windows 7 launch is set in motion, a bunch of new content is being released online to support the wider public availability. To kick things off, a handful of new first-party theme pack have been released on Windows.com, but with a twist.

In addition to a number of new international themes released featuring photographs from different regions of the world, 14 sponsored themes are also available for download with wallpapers sourced from various notable brands. They range from movies to sports cars, video games and even refreshment beverages (from both Coke and Pepsi!).

As time goes on, I’d expect more companies to jump on this opportunity as an easy and fun way to promote their products and brand. Music label EMI has already planned a whole site dedicated to branded Windows 7 theme packs.

  1. hey this is anuraj jayan my friend has told me about this themes
I had seen this themes in his computer I just want to download it
But when i browse in the net I just got confussed to selete one because it amazing

  2. Much like the huge range of yawn inducing Xbox Live themes Microsoft thinks we’ll be willing to pay for, I imagine this will sink without a trace.

As far as money-spinners go, this might not work too well!

  3. Why can’t they release themes like the Plus! packs had? Some class, originality, less ad-like and actual new sounds and mouse pointers?

  4. Bloody hell, Windows 7 gives you something cool, and people complain about Long making posts, and MS making stuff for free.

Garion, it’s release week for Win7. What were you expecting?

Andrew, sorry, where are you being asked to pay for this? Even the EMI link specifically mentioned “free”.

cheapublicity, Win7 comes with loads of sound packs built in. And ugh at mouse pointers, most of the ones out there are terrible. If there’s one big reason why you don’t put that stuff in the main product, it’s usability. You don’t give people ways to cripple their user experience. Different pointers may be cool, but invariably, they’re worse to use. Don’t get me wrong, I used to use them on XP, but only because the XP quality pointers weren’t all that good.
Plus, well, you don’t have to download them. Jeez.

  5. That last line was regarding complaining about the existence of sponsored packs. I mean, take Ferrari: some people love having car memorabilia – this is perfect for them.

  6. I don’t know if you noticed, but the musicthemesfor7 site was just updated with a countdown to approximately 3 days from now. 🙂

  7. There is no twist in downloading the themes. You just click download and that is it. How stupid are you?

  8. @Eric Long was not saying that the twist was in downloading themes! As far as I can tell, he was simply saying that it is different for Microsoft to be providing themes for things like Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Infinity! They normally would release relatively generic themes, so this is quite a turn of events!

  9. I guess the musicthemesfor7.com website was just a false teaser site. They still have yet to put anything there. If they intend on doing so, they should do it soon or at least post a note on the site that they had a delay.

  10. whoah this weblog is magnificent i love studying your articles. Keep up the good paintings! You know, lots of individuals are hunting around for this information, you can help them greatly.
