For the Cruizer example (which I have and checked, Cruizer icon is shown), this entry gives me {4d36e967-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} as you describe, meaning "DiskDrive".

None of the entries in Device Manager gives {b3004f87-774a-4cc6-9c51-89264da4ed5a}, although this is a sub-directory of the dmrccache directory. I have checked all the ID's shown in the properties, including the USB controller 'tree'.

There must be some other way tho correctly extract the GUID from the device.

You can find GUIDs in the Device Manager. On Windows 7 open Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> expand the desired category tree -> right click on the device select Properties -> Details tab -> select property "Device class guid" -> right click on the Value and copy to clipboard.

I want to know how to set my realistic Icon for my Printer. When I first installed it should the correct icon. An exact image of my printer. But I had to reinstall the printer a number of times. Now it just shows a generic printer and there is no menu option to set the device to realist icons

Try this feedback form for Windows 7:
http://mymfe.microsoft.com/Windows%207/Feedback.aspx?formID=195

It can't hurt if you let MS know you'd like to be able to manually change the icons without any of the resource hacking what not. It'd be sweet if they actually implemented it. People are gonna hack them anyway, that's not what MS want. Also there's loads of people who get the wrong icons or their icons change randomly.

So everybody, let them know you want a "Change icon" option in there!

The GUID for razer copperhead is 28A946E1-E83B-4662-BC7C-23451851489E
I had the icon, but it has dissapeared, I don't know why.
I tried to download it at :
http://download.dmd.metaservices.microsoft.com/dp/winqual/28a946e1-e83b-4662-bc7c-23451851489e.devicemetadata-ms
But all I get is :
404 - File or directory not found.
The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there a good tutorial on how to make .devicemetadata-ms files ? Because I just want to add some icons for some old devices I use, and Windows keep deleting the extra stuff I put on AppData\Local\Microsoft\Device Metadata\dmrccache
