Not trying to pick a fight or anything but that hurts me, deep. Speaking of which, how convenient of the US dollar to fall faster than a Jenga tower. Oh and did I mention I have to pay tax?

That trends seems unfair. Grats on your win nonetheless mate ๐
Nah Long, stuff ’em.
…….. … *begins to chant “FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!”*
it is funny though
Must’ve been the Euro… you know… Paris ain’t cheap for MS either. ๐
It sucks. but good thing we weren’t in it for the money or anything….. *whistles*
15-thousand is still better than nothing though; and you can always enter again next year after Obama gets sworn in, USD should me on the upswing by then. ๐
That’s pretty little – for yearly work of several people, especially compared to costs of organization of whole cup :/. I hope you kept some kicking ideas for next year :).
Unfortunately we can’t compete in the Software Design invitational again due to the rules.
oh! that’s sad ๐ฎ
But don’t worry I hopes you will get thrice next year, just do well ๐
The whole economy is messed up. Dollar rates falling has become a reason fro losses for many here in India too.
Maybe less in money value, never in merit, honor and glory! =D
Congrats again! Meet you in Egypt!
Roberto (Team Brazil)
how do you know the dollar will be back up next year?
So did you do it for the money? ๐
I’m guessing not. This kind of event isn’t about the money, it’s about the recognition you get as a result of winning. In the long term you’ll look back and remember the win, not how much you won.
Everything in this world is taxed, get used to it ๐
I get the joke, but I can’t feel bad for you. I’ve seen your resumรฉ, and that was before you won this.
You can make 10x that every year (including stock + benefites) if you accept an offer to come work in Redmond. We could use your special skills!
@Joe: Yay, where do I sign?
Long, C’mon…this isn’t your best post. Incredible win – congrats, I’m sure you didnt do it for the money.
@Peter Menadue: How much money aside, I’m very curious to why it changed at all in relations to the otherwise perfect trend.
rofl.. I know. Good thing we came second in the national SDI finals then went on to win the Interop award ๐ Hopefully next year we’ll win the SDI ๐ Sadly you can’t participate so none of that extra huge 30,000 usd cake for you ๐
And speaking of tax, yes you have to pay some of that too.. I’m not sure but I think we might be charged something like 33% on our $10,000 prize money. Hopefully the USD will go up again by then ๐ The money is going to take a bit of time to get to us (we just got our national SDI final prize money so :P) so hopefully the USD rate will sky rocket then… and lets hope it falls down again when we get to encash our trip to Redmond but why do I have a feeling that’s asking for too much? ๐
Congrats on the win.. didn’t I tell you you’d clinch first place? ๐
I think you’re perfectly justified in feeling how you feel and posting this, Long. Too often, things like this happen and they go unspoken due to people appearing “greedy” if they say anything at all but it’s not about greed; it’s about principle. And at that, who’s being the greedy one? You, for saying something or Microsoft for decreasing the contest by $10,000 this year? I believe this does merit an explanation given the graph you’ve provided.
I certainly don’t think it has anything to do with some sort of preferential treatment of past or future winners but all-in-all, I completely understand why you posted this, why you feel like you feel and why an answer is absolutely merited. I say dig much deeper than solely posting this, Long. Reach out there and request answers from every single person who you think could provide as such. Keep us posted; people like me want to see where this goes from here (if anywhere). Good luck and congrats on your win, regardless.

the points shouldn’t be connected on the graph ๐ but anyways that does seem really unfair to you guys
There is no such thing as “fair” when it comes to these things. If the competition’s prize money decreases for a given year, then bad luck. That’s the way it goes. If you don’t like the prize money, don’t compete. Nobody is forcing you.
It sounds like if you won $1m in the Lottery you’d complain if the previous winner won $3m.
I’m afraid you’re just coming across as bitter. Get over it and be grateful for the opportunities that winning this competition will present.
@OJ: Oh bitter me. I’m so ungrateful.
