The latest Get a Mac ad for the holiday season, which also happens to be the least snobbish, is simply adorable. Although I wish Santa played a had more to his role than just blowing a whistle. And in case you’re wondering, it’s not CG, it’s a stop-motion animation by LAIKA/house. Now I’ve got that tune stuck to my head, with those lyrics.

I dont think Santa likes Mac in real life
Hah, I like that one. It just wasn’t a douche bag advert, so I like it!
Great ad
..
Oh yes. It would be so boring without the PC
Call me stupid, but am I the only one who keeps thinkin why the hell people call Windows computers PCs and Apple computers Macs? Aren’t they all Personal Computers? Why does PC=Windows and not Mac. I must be missing something? I see it everywhere and its frustrating. Hope someone can tell me.
@SeBsZ: Maybe the Mac isn’t personal?
Macs are hardware… PCs are hardware. Windows is software that runs on both Macs and PCs, but Macs and PCs (Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.) are different at the hardware level.
I understand that macs and pcs are hardware, and that windows and osx are software. However, why is it that when we say “PC” we refer to a computer running the Windows OS Software, and when we say “MAC” we refer to a computer running the Apple OSX Software. My point is, aren’t macs personal computers as well?
Uhh tdm Mac’s are just PC’s now more than ever at the hardware level with their switch to x86 hardware. The external case may be different but there is very little that separates the internal hardware of any Mac from a vanilla x86 computer.
The only one difference is Mac’s have EFI a replacement for the traditional bios but PC’s will begin using Unified EFI it’s successor.
As to why everyone has settled on the PC term well I think its because like so many other things in life that get shortened down, abbreviated it’s the easiest and shortest thing to say to get across the meaning of an x86 compatible computer (with the assumption given that it’s running Windows).
Well, I think I’m going to do exactly what Apple says in this ad, and not buy a Mac, this Christmas or any other time.

But a Mac generally separates its purchaser from more cash than does a PC…
I’m glad they didn’t decide to use Jesus instead of Santa.
Nicer than the usual ones, but I still hate Mac advertising. It’s so dumb.
What’s more important is OS X vs. Windows.
Never heard so much b*******t in my whole live, not even from Apple. I would not dare to talk about Vista if a had a product as lousy as Leopard. Apple? No, thank you!
It’s funny, but what I find funnier is Apple portraying the PC user as a moronic PC to Mac switcher with an agenda when Apple themselves are terribly guilty of doing just the opposite.
We say “PC compatible” because the “PC” was an actual computer from IBM a while ago. It had an 8086 (the PC-jr had an 8088), and what is now standard stuff (well, standard stuff that hasn’t been replaced).
So, that’s why I”ve always wondered why the mac ads are allowed to even say stuff about PC’s like that without IBM sueing.
Long, Santa does not just blow the whistle, he also sings along with PC and Mac “Santa Clause is coming to town”
I don’t know if they show them outside the US, but this is supposed to be reminiscent of those Rankin and Bass holiday specials.

Heh, I still love ‘PR Lady’.
(Is it just me, or does everyone else hate Macs?)
Beau,
I don’t hate Macs, but their evangelists on the internet are garbage
Yeah, but I prefer the hotter “Mac”.
Cute and funny add
MAC FTW!
Long you’re right. PC is very adorable. The chin hairs under ‘Mac’ are just scary!
I also personally like the actual people representing Mac and PC
Adorable
The ad is smart and cute, and the predictable outcome, PC users bitching and moaning about it is too.
Face it. The commercials are spot on. You don’t really think that they’d still be airing if there were any sue-able falsehoods in them do you?
Actually army, they arent making any complaints about any one pc manufacturer, so there is no libel. But actually, there are no falsehoods, just misinformation. Mac hardware isnt superior to pc hardware, it IS pc hardware, except its not easily upgradeable, like a pc. Someone might prefer OSX over windows, thats their call…. just install osx on your pc. People shouldnt have to pay premium mac hardware prices just for osx, and thats what they are doing.
