I remember seeing this add, and in it you see the mouse moving, so it's not a mock-up in photoshop. The most likely scenario for me is that it's XP, with vista start menu (maybe using vi-start), and with a Mac theme. I believe it's not vista due to the start orb and the other reasons pointed out above. It's not a mac (as you can see from the cursor, icons etc). This leaves XP or Linux. I don't think it's Linux but I could be wrong...

I'm not sure the application open is the welcome center...The welcome center icon in the taskbar is a little ''vista'' box whereas the icon on the taskbar for the app open appears to be the windows flag. Canon may have simply used PhotoShop to create a false image using a bunch of different applications and operating systems.

I recognise the program. It's Canon Easy Photo Print, and interestingly enough, it does come in Windows flavours. So why use a Mac screenshot of it?

Also, doesn't the button in the middle of the set of Quick Launch buttons look a lot like the one in XP? Compare: (http://www.student.services.wiu.edu/ess/training/knowledge/documents/images/1126.jpg)

What I think is that they were using a transformation pack to make XP look like Vista. They probably set "Auto-hide the taskbar" setting and took a screenshot of a Mac desktop running the Canon software, and saved the screenshot and used it as the desktop for their "Vista" (XP).
