Photosynth is very nifty. That said, I think that Quicktime VR views (or, say, Google's street view panoramas) tend to give a better, easier-to-navigate representation of the view from a single spot. But Photosynth has two major advantages over it:

1) Ability to fly around in 3D--see the point cloud, click to pictures from any angle
2) Easier to implement--can just use regular photos, works as a photo navigator as well as a place navigator

I think it'd be cool if Photosynth were able to display more than one photo at once. Maybe show the one photo you've clicked on, and then just a couple adjacent photos. All at once wouldn't work very well. But rollover previews--which are semi-implemented but hidden at the moment--could also be really nice.

Yeah, and potential thieves will love being able to case the joint with internal house walk-throughs too!

I'll try not to submit photo's from inside my house...

Photosynth is really great and has a huge potential. But I believe it is very complex to automatically analyse those pictures, so it may take a while until we have the whole world liked together via photos.

I can't be sure, but I think the bus has already passed through Bath. It's certainly not on the upcoming list of destinations for it :(
